Food and Drink Photography

Food and drink photography is one of my favourite assignments. I am always in awe of Scotland's food and drink producers who work to incredibly high standards. Therefore the pressure is enormous to accurately capture the textures of the food, the presentation and a story, provenance etc.

I've added to this post some favourite examples from numerous food and drink photography sessions over the years. Looking at the photographs chosen, they fall into different categories.

1) Food preparation, sometimes raw ingredients, or a nearly finished dish, sometimes including the chef.

2) Food ready to eat, plated and waiting to be enjoyed, the most common type of request for food and drink photography.

3) Close-ups of individual items, usually to highlight the texture

4) The restaurant environment or something that captures the style of the business, helping to make it more personal and less like a stock image. Sometimes waiting staff can be included in these shots.

5) Customers enjoying the food.
