Meet Paul Saunders

Trusted marketing partner for Scottish businesses and charities

Most businesses don’t need another supplier on their list. They need one person who understands their business, takes responsibility for their marketing, and can be relied on to get it right.

That’s what I do. I’m Paul Saunders — a marketing consultant based near Loch Lomond.

Since 2010, I’ve worked as a trusted marketing partner for hundreds of Scottish businesses and charities, helping them clarify their marketing, communicate more effectively, and grow with confidence.

Everything — strategy, websites, photography, video, social media, PR and campaigns — is handled personally by me. One person. No handovers, no account managers, no disconnect between the thinking and the doing. You deal with me from the first conversation to the final delivery, and at every point in between.

For many clients, that becomes a long-term partnership. For others, it starts with a single piece of work. Either way, the approach is the same — take time to understand the business properly, then put the right things in place.

30 years of understanding what makes people pay attention

I’ve worked in marketing for over 30 years — the past 16 running my own consultancy, the 20 before that in radio.

I ended my radio career as Programme Director at Clyde 1, where I led the station back to number one in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, and helped it win UK Music Radio Station of the Year. That background shapes everything I do today. Radio teaches you quickly why people listen and why they don’t — how to craft a message that cuts through, how to hold an audience’s attention, and how to make sure what you say actually lands.

Those aren’t just radio skills. They’re marketing fundamentals. And they’re what I bring to every client I work with.

What a trusted partnership looks like in practice

I work with businesses and charities across tourism, hospitality, food and drink, heritage, retail and professional services. Most relationships begin with a conversation or a specific piece of work and develop from there as trust builds and the scope becomes clearer.

In practice, that might mean developing a full marketing strategy, redesigning a website, producing photography and video, handling PR and campaigns, or providing ongoing monthly support that keeps everything moving forward consistently.

I’m deliberately a business of one. That means I choose my clients carefully and take on work where I know I can make a genuine difference. It’s not about volume. It’s about finding the right fit — and then delivering properly.

What clients say

Clients tend to say the same things after working together.

I take time to understand their business before recommending anything. That the advice is honest and practical rather than theoretical. And that the work actually makes a difference — not just on paper but in real results.

Here’s what that looks like in their words:

★★★★★

“I’ve had a fantastic experience — he gave lots of guidance, and I know I can ask for advice going forward.” — Dorothy, artist and e-commerce client

“The finished product surpassed our expectations. An absolute pleasure to work with.” — Jack Oswald, Cancha Bags

“He provided us with a one-stop shop of branding, marketing, website, social media, video recording and production. A wealth of information, enthusiasm and great ideas.” — Eleanor, Behaviour Works

“Paul understood our story immediately and turned it into something clear, engaging and genuinely impactful. A true sense of partnership — a rarity in the industry.” — Jenn McArthur, STEP Scotland

Frequently asked questions

I'm based near Loch Lomond and work with businesses, charities and organisations across Scotland — providing marketing strategy, Squarespace website design, photography, video, social media and PR. Most client relationships begin with a focused review or specific project and develop into longer-term ongoing support. Below are answers to the questions I'm most commonly asked.

How do we get started?

The best starting point is a free 30-minute phone call. We'll talk through your business, your current marketing, and what you're trying to achieve. From there, I'll suggest the most appropriate next step — whether that's a Marketing Performance Audit, an AI Readiness Audit, a specific project, or something else entirely. If I don't think I'm the right fit, I'll tell you.

What does it cost?

The two audit products are priced at £500, plus VAT, with the fee credited against any subsequent work. Project and retainer work is scoped individually because the right solution varies significantly between clients. You'll always receive a clear, itemised quote before any work begins.

What happens after the audit?

The audit is a standalone piece of work — you receive a clear written report and a personal walkthrough, and you're free to act on it however you choose. Many clients find that it becomes the starting point for a longer working relationship, whether that's a specific project or ongoing support. If there's a good fit, we'll both know it.

How does the process work?

Every project starts with a clear conversation about your goals and what success looks like. I’ll then propose a practical plan of activity with defined outcomes and timescales. Once agreed, the work is scheduled and delivered in stages, so you always know what’s happening and when.

Who actually carries out the marketing and creative work?

Everything is led and delivered by me. I personally handle strategy, Squarespace website design, photography, video production, social media and PR. For larger or more specialist projects, I may bring in trusted collaborators, but I remain your single point of contact throughout. You always know who is doing the work and who to call.

Where do you work?

I'm based near Loch Lomond and work with clients throughout Scotland. Some projects are delivered in person, others remotely — whatever works best for the client and the work.

What size projects do you take on?

I work primarily with Scottish SMEs, tourism businesses, charities and not-for-profits. Most of my clients are organisations that need senior marketing thinking but don't have — or don't want — a full-time marketing person. The minimum project value is £500, and ongoing relationships can, subject to availability, be on a monthly retainer basis.

How does an ongoing retainer work?

A retainer gives you consistent, planned marketing support across a defined set of activities each month. It's more efficient than one-off projects, more strategically coherent, and means you always have a marketing resource you can call on. Retainer relationships typically begin after an initial audit or project, once we both have a clear picture of what's needed.
