Helping over 150 businesses present themselves more clearly and market themselves with confidence

I’ve worked extensively with STEP Scotland in Stirling, which delivers the Business Gateway service locally and administers Expert Help in Falkirk.

For over a decade, I have delivered more than 150 Expert Help projects, supporting businesses at every stage — from start-ups to long-established companies.

Alongside this, I’ve also supported STEP and Business Gateway through workshops, video and content, helping to communicate the impact of their programmes and the businesses they work with.

Where businesses typically start

Across that work, a consistent pattern comes up.

Businesses that are doing good work but not presenting it clearly or strongly enough.

Their offer isn’t always easy to understand. Their messaging doesn’t reflect the quality of what they deliver. And their marketing doesn’t always connect with the right audience in the way it should.

That’s where the work starts — making sure the business is properly represented.

How the support works

Each Expert Help project is delivered over a focused three-day programme, giving the space to step back and look properly at the business.

We focus on what the business actually offers, who it’s trying to reach, and how to communicate that.

From there, the work is about sharpening that message and putting a clear marketing strategy in place — something structured, focused and realistic that the business can follow.

The aim is simple: to ensure the business presents itself in a way that does it justice.

What was delivered

The work has centred on building clear, practical marketing strategies.

That includes refining positioning, improving how services are communicated, strengthening websites and digital content, and helping businesses focus their efforts on the channels most likely to bring in the right enquiries.

Each project is different, but the outcome is consistent — clearer direction, stronger messaging, and a marketing approach that properly reflects the business.

Workshops, content and storytelling

Alongside the consultancy work, I’ve also supported STEP and Business Gateway in how they communicate the impact of their programmes.

This has included delivering workshops, filming business events, and producing video content that captures real business stories.

That includes a 40-film series to mark STEP Scotland’s 40th anniversary, as well as testimonial-led video content for Business Gateway Falkirk, highlighting the positive impact their support has on local businesses.

The focus is always on authenticity — real businesses explaining what they do and how they’ve developed.

The impact

The impact of this work is straightforward.

Businesses come away with a clear sense of direction, stronger messaging, and a marketing approach that is much more focused and effective.

They understand how to present what they do, connect with the right audience, and move their marketing forward with confidence.

For STEP and Business Gateway, it also means being able to clearly demonstrate impact — through both the work's outcomes and the content that supports them.

What this means for your business

If you’re unsure where to focus or feel your marketing lacks direction, this type of structured support provides a clear and practical starting point. The best place to start is a straightforward conversation about where you are and what might work better.
