Friends of Loch Lomond
Since establishing my business in 2010, I have enjoyed a long and rewarding partnership with Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, the independent conservation and heritage charity dedicated to protecting, promoting, and providing for Scotland’s first National Park. For around 50 years, the charity has safeguarded natural beauty, cultural heritage, and recreational opportunities across the 720 square miles of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
Work focuses on nurturing the park's special qualities through conservation projects, promoting its rich natural and cultural history, and supporting initiatives that enhance the park for both people and wildlife. The charity engages with communities, volunteers, visitors, and businesses, offering education programmes, conservation volunteering, and membership opportunities to help preserve this special place for future generations.
In the early years of my business, I was commissioned by the charity to produce a series of nine films titled Celebrating Park People and Their Stories. Each film profiled a different person who lived and worked in the National Park, with stories chosen from across the area to reflect the diverse human connections to the landscape. This fascinating project allowed me to showcase the people who make the National Park such a vibrant and special place.
Building on that, I was later asked to compile a book involving primary schools from Drymen, Gartocharn, Luss, Tarbet, Buchanan, and Balloch. We visited these schools and encouraged the children to write poems, draw pictures, and share what the National Park meant to them. The project provided an excellent opportunity to involve young people in celebrating their local environment.
In 2017, I was honoured to be invited to join the charity as a volunteer trustee, a role I held for six years. During this time, I contributed to various projects and supported the charity’s efforts to promote and protect the park. My business has also proudly been an ‘Our Park’ supporter, providing financial donations and volunteer time, and allowing the charity to access and use my photographic library of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs free of charge, as well as capturing new PR photographs to accompany stories of their projects.
Most recently, I completed a significant project to create a brand-new website for the charity, which I delivered at no cost. The charity’s previous website had become outdated, and the original developers could no longer support it as technology had moved on. I was delighted to help them preserve their rich collection of conservation and heritage content while building a new, modern website that supports online donations, new and renewal memberships, and includes an online shop. This digital transformation helps the charity continue its mission, connecting more effectively with supporters and ensuring the National Park's stories, heritage, and future are championed for years.
