Friends of Loch Lomond
Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs is the independent conservation and heritage charity dedicated to protecting, promoting and providing for Scotland’s first National Park — Loch Lomond & The Trossachs.
Since establishing my business in 2010, I’ve enjoyed a long and meaningful partnership with the charity, supporting their work across conservation, heritage, community engagement and digital communications. For almost 50 years, the organisation has safeguarded the natural beauty, cultural heritage and recreational value of the 720 square miles that make up the National Park.
Early storytelling projects: people and place
One of my earliest projects with the charity was the production of a nine-film series titled Celebrating Park People and Their Stories. Each short film profiled someone who lived or worked within the National Park, with contributors chosen from across the area to reflect the wide range of human connections to the landscape.
This project focused on authentic, place-based storytelling and highlighted the role people play in shaping, caring for, and sustaining the National Park.
Enaging young people through creative projects
Building on this work, I was later commissioned to support a schools-based creative project involving primary schools in Drymen, Gartocharn, Luss, Tarbet, Buchanan and Balloch.
Working directly with pupils, we encouraged children to write poems, create artwork and share what the National Park meant to them. The resulting book celebrated young voices and provided a powerful way of engaging future generations with their local environment and heritage.
Trustee role and long-term charitable support
In 2017, I was honoured to be invited to join the charity as a volunteer trustee — a role I held for six years. During this time, I supported strategic decision-making and contributed to a range of projects to protect and promote the National Park.
Alongside this, my business has been a proud Our Park supporter, contributing through:
• financial donations
• volunteer time
• free access to my Loch Lomond & The Trossachs photographic library
• ongoing PR and project photography
This support has helped the charity communicate its work more effectively and share stories of conservation, heritage and community impact.
Website redevelopment and digital transformation
Most recently, I delivered a major digital project for the charity: the design and build of a brand-new website, provided entirely at no cost.
The previous website had become outdated and unsupported as technology moved on. My aim was to:
• preserve the charity’s extensive conservation and heritage content
• create a modern, accessible platform
• support online donations and membership sign-ups
• enable membership renewals
• integrate an online shop
The new site provides a future-proof digital foundation, helping the charity connect more effectively with supporters and continue championing the National Park’s stories, heritage and future for years to come.
Marketing support rooted in shared values
Working with Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs has been one of the most rewarding partnerships of my career. It reflects my commitment to place-based storytelling, sustainability and supporting organisations that protect Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage.
